REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE QUIZ CLUB – JUNE 2018
In connection with the Ramayana month, a quiz based on the epic was held on 10thAugust . Students representing all the departments formed the teams. Dr. Saritha, Head of Sahitya Department, Sanskrit College, Thripunithra conducted the quiz and addressed the students on the ‘Relevance of Ramayana ‘. A General Quiz, with five rounds of questions, and an audio and visual round as well was held on 31 January 2019. The teams were from the five departments of English, Economics, Management, Commerce and Computer Science.

REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE DRAMATICS CLUB
Theatre has been an active movement in the Chinmaya College premises since the last few years. We had staged the ‘Legend of Mahabali’, ‘Karuna ‘and ‘Scenes and Characters from Shakespeare ‘. The Dramatics Club members represented the College at the University Youth Festival with a skit that had a socially relevant theme. The full length Shakespearean play ‘Macbeth’ was enacted at the College Day 2018. This was a production directed by Mrs.VaishaliChakravarty, who is trained in theatre at the The Trinity College, London. She is also the director of a theatre group Actor Factor , New Delhi.
The activities of the Dramatics Club for the current academic year began with an orientation course for the members of the club on 9th August 2018. The resource person was Mrs.VaishaliChakravarthy, who had been associated with us last year.
A play for the college day will be presented with the theme of drug addiction and its consequences. Our former student Narayanan Ganapathy, trained in theatre, is assisting the students.
REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE LITERARY CLUB
The Reading Week was inaugurated by Dr.K.G.Paulose, former Vice- Chancellor, Kerala Kalamandalam and former Principal, Govt. Sanskrit College, Tripunithra on 25th June 2018.
A book review competition was also held the same day.
Essay Writing Competition on 25th July, in English/ Malayalam was held in association with the Sai Foundation on the topic – My ideal of an ideal person.
An essay writing and poster making competition was held on November 1st on the theme ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’. Students from all the departments took part.
Creative Writing Competition in English/Hindi/Malayalam was held on 20th November. Topics for poetry, short story, essay were given on the spot.
Book review on the books written by Indian authors was done by the students of first year B.A.English on 14th November.
A lecture on ‘Flouting Boundaries-A kaleidoscopic study of the fictional world of Amitav Ghosh’ was held on Jauary 18th 2019. Dr.SoneyBhageeradhan, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Cochin College delivered the lecture.Teachers- in – charge
REPORT OF THE DEBATE CLUB
The Chinmaya College has a rich tradition in nurturing excellent debators ever since its inception and we have been following the tradition in earnest. The activities of the debate club which was formally initiated by our Trustee Sri .V.N.Venugopal in September 2017 has been actively involved in developing the oratory skills of its members.
A meeting is scheduled every Friday, when the members debate on issues of social and cultural importance. The members represent the college at various intercollege competitions. The regular meetings have helped them to improve on their communication skills and it is an exercise that they love to engage in.

Achievements -ThapanDubey Santosh won the fourth place at the Inter University Debate held by the Association of Indian Universities at Tirupathi on 7th October 2018. He has also talked his way into the semi-final round of the Speak for Debate – Kerala Edition -2018. The trophy for Best Speaker was again bagged by Thapan Santosh at the Mother Digna Debate and the team that included Durga Lakshmi took the second best team. Thapan Santosh won the second place at the P.M.Pailee Pillai Memorial Competition, Kolenchery in January 2019
The media club, in addition to its usual tasks, introduced various media-oriented activities this year. The media club members and students of the Communicative English department participated in the current affairs show ‘Manasu’ in Manorama News in June 2018. The Media Club in collaboration with The Department of Communicative English organised a Student photography exhibition in accordance with World Photography Day, on 7 September, 2018. Students from all departments participated in the exhibition. Around 100 selected photographs were exhibited. Winners were selected. The club also organized a film review competition for students of all departments on 22 January, 2019. The competition was based on the award-winning French short film ‘Remembering the Fallen’.
This year too the club actively conducted monthly screenings of classic movies for the students. Classic movies like Gone with the Wind (English-1939), Casablanca (English-1942), Vertigo (English-1958) and Run Lola Run (German-1998)were screened.
VIMUKTHI CLUB 2018-19
The current academic year 2018-19 saw the inauguration of the VIMUKTHI Club under the guidance of our principal Dr. R. Radhakrishnan Nair and as per the instruction of M.G. University. The club was formed with the objective of organising anti-drug addiction programmes for students’ awareness; the motto being “Say No to Drugs”.
The club committee was instituted with Mr. Aldrin Joseph (Commerce dept.) and Mrs. Sabitha Kuriakose (English dept.) as faculty coordinators. Mrs. Jayanthi (Business Management dept.) was designated as activity coordinator for the club.
CHARITY CLUB EVENT REPORT
21 July 2018.
Members of the Chinmaya College of Arts, Science and Commerce Charity club ‘SEVANA, visited Government L.P. School Pulluveli Bhagam, Disaster Management Camp to meet up with the families that were affected by the recent floods and rain. We collected different types of clothing, bedding items, food items, grains and pulses, cash etc. from the students and faculty members. Students with Amal Sir met with Panchayath President and distributed the things among the families in the Camp.
14 August 2018.
The charity club members of Chinmaya College collected money from the students to donate to The Karunalayam Charitable Trust for the purpose of buying food for the residents of the Charitable Trust. The cash amount of Rs. 3000/- was handed over to the authorities of the charitable trust. They spent that money for buying their one day meal.
21 September 2018.
Members of the Chinmaya College of Arts, Science and Commerce Charity club ‘SEVANA, collected an amount of Rs.10,000/-and visited two Flood Relief Camps in Kunnukara and Manjali on 20th and 21st of September 2018.
20 December 2018.
Some of the Charity Club members of our college visited ‘Kafarnam’ shelter home to provide them with the rice and pulses collected from the students and teachers of the college. They distributed cakes as a part of Christmas day celebration.
